URBAN AREAS
Triennial will also spread into the Tampere urban space. Potential locations, for which artists can propose artworks, are e.g. the courtyard of Tampere Art Museum, Tammerlampi-pond, the excercise area under Ratina Bridge (e.g. the back wall), the area in Hämeenpuisto between the streets Hämeenkatu and Hallituskatu, the white wall at the Pellavatehtaankatu entrance of P-Hämppi (underground parking hall), staircase of the P-Hämppi entrance at Tullinaukio and the windows and central hall of Tampere railway station. Additionally, artists and groups themselves can suggest places for the location of their artworks. Outdoor works can be installed in their places already in summertime, if possible. |
RESIDENTIAL AREAS
Hervanta is a growing satellite city of Tampere, which has a significant population of students and immigrants. At the other end of Tampere there is Tesoma, which is now one of the centre areas in the new development project of City of Tampere and the State of Finland. The residents of Tesoma are involved in the planning of their own environment.
In both of these residential areas artists can bring in their ideas into the urban planning. Together with the residents they are able to involve themselves in the development of the area´s cultural and operational environments with the help of e.g. community art. The curator also takes into consideration the proposals for other residential areas in Tampere.

THE THEME: MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME
The theme of the 6th Triennial of Pirkanmaa is Home as in Make yourself at home. Home is a subject that we all are connected to in one way or another. ”Make yourself at home” is a friendly opening line to a guest, with which we want to show our hospitality. In a society of people of the same cultural aspects it is safe to present this invitation, but can you really trust the sincerity of this invitation in a multicultural society?
Home is the bastion of privacy, often closed to outsiders. For some people it might even be a place for loneliness and fear. Where and when we feel at home? Can you feel at home anywhere, if you for some reason have lost your own home? Is home a mere memory or dream or the subject of constant homesickness? In our global world the concept of home is in constant change. The artists participating in the Triennial are welcomed to deliberate the meanings of home from their own starting points.
